Lawyer: Flavor Flav aims for sobriety, closed battery case


LAS VEGAS (AP) – Lawyers for artist Flavor Flav said on Wednesday he was trying to stay sober after dismissing a domestic battery misdemeanor resulting from a fight with his girlfriend at home in the suburb of Las Vegas.

The 62-year-old former rapper, hip-hop and reality TV star, whose legal name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., has not filed a challenge in Henderson City Court on a tort coercion charge non-violent, admitted to picking up a cell phone and paying $ 640 in fines, a court official and his lawyers said.

“Sir. Drayton and his family are grateful for having resolved this matter amicably and appreciate everyone’s support as he continues his year-long journey to sobriety,” said defense attorneys David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld in a statement.

Drayton was arrested on October 4 at his home in Henderson. He was released from jail the next day on $ 3,000 bail.

The alleged victim has been identified as a woman with whom he has a romantic relationship and a minor child in common. His name was redacted in court and police documents.

Flavor Flav is known to wear a large clock on a chain around his neck. He was inducted with the group Public Enemy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. Public Enemy debuted in the New York area in 1986.

The former rapper has a criminal record including arrests and convictions for traffic offenses, one month in jail for assaulting his then girlfriend in 1991 and three months behind bars for shooting a neighbor in New York City. in 1993.

He was arrested in October 2012 in Las Vegas after being accused of wielding knives and threatening his then-fiancée’s 17-year-old son at their home.

The felony case was dismissed after he pleaded guilty in 2014 to reduced charges of attempted bodily harm, served probation and took a course in domestic violence counseling.
