The focus group consisted of a veteran, a correctional officer, a research consultant, a leader, and a worship leader.

During their discussion, the men touched on a variety of topics important to black men, including mental health and the relationship between black men and the police.

One of the men who took part in the discussion was Chief Anthony Head. He shared his perspective on the importance for black men to open up about their mental health.

“I think acceptance for brothers, black men to go for formal therapy is on the rise. The acceptance is there, the pandemic has made it more accessible, and I think even within my social group, it’s not just the formal therapy services, but when the church or the hair salon don’t are no longer there, I noticed that my intergroup has changed. We say ‘I love you’ a lot more,” he said.
