Christmas parking

hoppers can take advantage of two hours of free parking for Christmas in municipal parking lots in the town of Arklow during the Christmas period, from Wednesday December 1 through Monday January 3 inclusive.

Free all-day parking will continue as usual on weekends.

Payroll and signage will remain as usual on Main Street, Lower Main Street, Upper Main Street and Wexford Road.

The decision was accepted by the Cathaoirleach and members of the Arklow Municipal District.

Jobseekers

Employability Service Wicklow is a free employment agency funded by the Department of Social Protection which helps people with disabilities and in need of additional support to find work.

The service can help job seekers plan their careers and prepare their CVs, finding them suitable jobs that match their skills and abilities. It also provides information on benefits / rights.

Support against cancer

Arklow Cancer Support continues to provide support to anyone diagnosed with cancer. His office on St Mary’s Road remains closed, but the volunteer-run organization provides its services behind closed doors.

The Volunteer to Drive program, which takes clients from the ward for daily therapy, will continue as normal. Consultations will take place remotely. Art, sound meditation, chair yoga, women’s group, and other Friday drop-in activities will all continue to stick through Zoom.

Craft Fair

The Arklow Craft Fair takes place in Bridgewater Shopping Center from noon to 6 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month.

Bridgewater Shopping Center will also host the Craft Fair for two additional weekends in December before Christmas, from Friday December 10 to Sunday December 12 and from Friday December 17 to Sunday December 19.

Social group

The Golden Circle social group is open to members of all ages from Arklow and surrounding areas.

Following discussions within the committee and with the hotel, the Christmas dinner on Sunday December 12 at the Arklow Bay Hotel will go ahead as planned. Vaccination certificates and photo ID are required.

Junior park

The Arklow Junior Parkrun takes place every Sunday morning at 9:30 am at Duck Pond. It is a 2 km event reserved for juniors aged four to 14 years old.

Men’s shed

Arklow Men’s Shed meets at Monument Lane, Arklow. the Men’s Shed brings men together, providing a place to sit, work, talk and enjoy company.

The hangar is made up of several groups that provide a variety of activities, stress relief, and opportunities to be proactive.

Friendship Center

This group meets on Wednesdays at Marlborough Hall, Arklow from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Visual arts

The Arklow Visual Arts Gallery is looking for new members for the coming year.

Tributes to the deceased

This journal offers pieces of tribute to bereaved family members within the local community who have recently suffered the loss of a loved one.

The service is available free of charge and will be carried out taking into account your personal wishes and requests.

Support for new mothers

All La Leche League in-person meetings and home visits remain suspended, but leaders remain available to mothers by phone and social media

La Leche League Arklow hopes to host outdoor meetings in the near future, with the option of resuming indoor meetings subject to government guidelines. Until then, La Leche League leaders can be contacted directly for breastfeeding support and information.

Jigsaw

Jigsaw Wicklow is based in Bray, but provides services to young people between the ages of 12 and 25 who live, work or attend school in County Wicklow.

Grow Mental Health’s Arklow Community Group is hosting in-person meetings at a new location.

Community group meetings will be held weekly on Monday mornings at 10 a.m. at the Bridge Christian Community Center, 1A Wexford Rd.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings, which will explore positive mental health, wellness, and recovery. Meetings are free to attend.

Bridge

The Apollo Bridge Club meets Thursdays at 7:15 p.m. in the Presbyterian Hall, Ferrybank. New members are welcome.

Coffee of breads and fish

The Loaves and Fishes Café is open for take out only every Tuesday from 4.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. at the Center, Wexford Road. Deliveries are also available for anyone unable to exit during Covid restrictions.

Loaves and Fishes also launched its Christmas 2021 campaign, Bringing Christmas Home, to provide Christmas dinner to individuals and families in need.

Samaritans

East Coast Samaritans, based in Arklow, provides listening service and emotional support to callers through phone calls and emails. They can be contacted 24/7 by calling 116 123.

With usual fundraising on hold due to Covid-19, Samaritans on the East Coast have set up a GoFundMe to raise funds that will support the group’s vital work.

Bray Women’s Refuge has confirmed that its outreach support clinic in Arklow is once again operational by appointment only Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The service provides emotional and practical support to women who are experiencing or have suffered domestic violence.

The Bray Women’s Refuge Helpline is available by calling 01 286 6163, 24 hours a day, seven days a week for confidential advice and support.

Road closure

Wicklow County Council has informed that North Quay will be temporarily closed to facilitate work on the construction of the Arklow wastewater treatment plant.

The closure of North Quay will remain in effect until Friday, December 17 at 7 p.m.

Motorists are advised to follow the alternative route. Wicklow County Council said the closure was to allow construction of the sewer system.
